Swimming

Swimming is a primary sport at SACS. Many of our strong swimmers are also waterpolo players and as a result both clubs work closely with each other.

There are 7 A-league interschool’s galas across a season (Term 4-Term 1) held a various local schools. The galas are individual, relay or a combined individual/relay format. Each gala starts at 3.30pm on a Thursday and teams are selected based on the fastest times in each of the strokes over 50m.

Newlands Gala is the climax of the swimming season. Spirit Committees and Cheerleaders from the schools involved create a lively social occasion to watch the best swimmers in the Western Cape compete. This gala happens towards the end of February / beginning of March depending upon availability of Newlands Swimming Pool.

The most competitive gala occurs at SACS where each house enters swimmers to compete in the Interhouse Championship Gala. This occurs towards the end of term 1 and is an opportunity for swimmers to break records that date back decades.
