Cross Country is one of the primary sports which SACS offers its students in winter. It has been offered as a school sport since 1962. We have fixture races most Wednesday afternoons in winter with training on another two days namely Mondays and Thursdays. Most of the training is conducted in the Newlands forest and trails of Table Mountain. Trail running has become very popular and many of our boys use this training to benefit their other sports as running forms the basis of most sports. Many of our athletes also use this training as a foundation to participate in half marathons, such as the Two Oceans Half marathon.
We enter different age groups and run various distances in races depending on one’s age. Race distances vary between 4km and 8km. Boys can also enter Western Province Trials which takes place every year. Every alternate year the first cross country team competes and goes on tour to the Cape Schools Rugby and Cross Country tournament.
